Heneral Luna

Those who find love stories a big no in the big screen and those who are so used to cheesy and immature romantic scenes shown in TV series can consider this politically inspired and historically based action-drama film as something to watch out for. Following the current decade’s previously released national hero-based movies like “El Presidente” and “Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo”, “Heneral Luna” is obviously about the life story of Heneral Antonio Luna (Gen. Antonio Luna) and his struggles to fight for his beloved motherland against the Americans who were considered as the new invaders in his time.

John Arcilla will be portraying the character of Gen. Antonio Luna, a passionate commander of the revolutionary army during the not-so-told-about Philippine-American War. He is anticipated to showcase Luna’s legendary pride-driven and hot-blooded personality throughout the movie. His tragic death through the hands of some of his countrymen, who are loyal to their superiors who willingly embraced the Americans, is expected to be the climax or at least one of the highlights of the film.

Philippines’ first declared President, Emilio Aguinaldo, is one of the important characters in Luna’s biography. His character will be played by Mon Confiado and will be involved much in the conflict in the story’s plot. Joining also the cast of “Heneral Luna” are Leo Martinez, Mylene Dizon, Joem Bascon, Epy Quizon, Archie Alemania, Ketchup Eusebio, Arron Villaflor, Bing Pimentel, Alex Medina, Nonie Buencamino, Art Acuña, Alvin Anson, and Lorenz Martinez. Plus, notable drama actor Paolo Avelino will be having a special appearance in the movie as well.

The movie was directed by Jerrold Tarog and it will be shown on September 9, 2015 in cinemas nationwide. It is co-presented by the Filipino American National Historical Society – Metro NY and the Interference Archive. It is also scheduled to be released in other parts of the world and will be joining several international film festivals.
